Welcome to Factsmania. These Terms of Service ("Terms") set out the rules for using the Site. By visiting and using Factsmania you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of them, please do not use the Site.
Who we are
Factsmania is operated by the Factsmania team in the United Kingdom. References to "we", "us" and "our" in these Terms mean the Factsmania team.
Who the Site is for
Factsmania is a free educational encyclopedia aimed mainly at children aged 8 to 14, as well as their parents, carers and teachers. There is no age restriction on reading the Site, but if you are under 13 we ask that a parent or carer is aware that you use it.
Using the Site
You are welcome to use Factsmania for personal study, school work, classroom teaching and general curiosity. You agree NOT to:
- Use the Site for anything illegal or fraudulent.
- Copy or republish large amounts of our content commercially (see our copyright page for more on what is and is not allowed).
- Use automated tools to scrape, crawl or download the Site in a way that puts excessive load on our servers, or for the purpose of training artificial intelligence models, without our written permission.
- Try to break into, disrupt or test the security of the Site.
- Use the Site in a way that could damage, disable, overburden or impair it for other users.
- Misuse our contact and error-report forms (for example by sending spam, abusive messages or harmful files).
Content you send us
If you send us a message through the contact or error-report forms, you keep all rights in what you wrote, but you grant us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to read it, store it and use it to reply to you, improve the Site and (if you reported a fact problem) fix the issue.
Please do not send us personal information about yourself or anyone else that we do not need. Never include passwords, payment details or anything confidential.
Adverts
The Site is supported by adverts. The adverts are placed by Google AdSense and are subject to Google's own policies. We do our best to make sure adverts shown on Factsmania are appropriate for a young audience, but we cannot control every single advert that appears. If you see an ad that you think is inappropriate, please let us know.
Links to other websites
We sometimes link to other websites where it is helpful (for example, to official scientific sources or other educational organisations). We are not responsible for the content of those websites or for any changes to them. Following a link is at your own risk.
No warranties
We work hard to make sure the content on Factsmania is accurate, clear and up-to-date, but we cannot guarantee that every single fact, date or figure is perfect at every moment. The Site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. Nothing on Factsmania should be taken as professional advice. See our disclaimer for more.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Factsmania team is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss or damage arising from your use of the Site. Nothing in these Terms removes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded under English law (such as liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud).
Changes to the Site or to these Terms
We may add to, change or remove parts of the Site at any time. We may also update these Terms from time to time, especially if the law changes or we add new features. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page will tell you when we did so. By continuing to use the Site after a change, you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute about them will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts, unless local consumer-protection law in your country gives you the right to bring proceedings somewhere else.
