Factsmania is a free online encyclopedia for kids aged about 8 to 14. We cover the big subjects you meet at school (and quite a few you don't), in plain English, with kid-friendly examples and "did you know" facts on every page.
What you will find here
- Countries: a fact file for every country in the world, grouped by continent.
- Geography: rainforests, deserts, mountains, rivers, oceans and biomes.
- Famous landmarks: from the Pyramids of Giza to Machu Picchu.
- Science: five big subjects, hundreds of topics. Chemistry (with the full periodic table), physics, biology, earth science and astronomy.
- Environment: climate change, recycling and how we can all help to look after the planet.
Who we are
Factsmania is written and maintained by a small team based in the United Kingdom who care about clear, accurate writing for young readers. Many of our pages have been read and checked by teachers, parents and (sometimes) by curious kids themselves.
How we write
We follow a few simple rules to make Factsmania as useful as we can:
- British English, in plain language. Where we use a tricky word, we explain what it means.
- Original writing. Every page is written by a person, not copied from somewhere else.
- Cross-checked facts. Numbers (population, height, length, dates) are checked against at least two reliable sources where we can.
- Updated regularly. The world keeps changing, so we revisit pages to keep them current.
- Open to corrections. If you spot a mistake, we want to know. Use the report-an-error form and we will look into it.
How Factsmania is paid for
Factsmania is free for everyone to read. The Site is paid for by a small number of adverts on each page, served through Google AdSense. The ads do NOT change what we write about and they do not influence our editorial choices. You can read more in our privacy policy and cookies policy.
Teachers, parents and librarians
You are very welcome to use Factsmania in school, at home or in the library. Pages can be read, printed and shared for educational use without asking. Please read our copyright page for what is and is not allowed.
