Geography

Hungary is located on the continent of Europe, where it has a landlocked position and is bordered by Austria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine. Climate

Hungary experiences a temperate climate characterized by an overcast, cold but humid winter season and warm summer temperatures. The geography of Hungary is formed by the country's two major rivers, the Danube (Duna) and Tisza Rivers that split its land into three main geographic areas: a mountainous and hilly region on the border with Slovakia, the Transdanubia region, and the Great Hungarian Plain, also known as the Great Alfold, which spans most of the country. Major mountain ranges that occur in Hungary include the Alps and the North Hungarian Mountains. The lowest point of Hungary is the Tisza River at 78m, and the highest point of elevation is Kekes at 1,014m.

Culture

The official language of Hungary is Hungarian. English and German are also widely spoken in this country. Other languages that are used as a first language by a low percentage of the population include English, German, French, Russian and Romanian.

The main religion of Hungary is Roman Catholic at approximately 37% of the population. Around 11% are Calvinist, 2% Lutheran and 1% Greek Catholic. The rest of the population either belongs to other religions or no religion at all.
